In the Design Observer article “Toy Designer Luc Hudson Explains Why Openness Fuels Innovation”, author Lily Hansen depicts the life of toy/children’s artist, Luc Hudson. Rather than analyzing the article’s biography, I will discuss Hudson’s philosophy on growing in design. The main idea is to put aside intimidation to allow yourself to learn. Hudson explains an artist should not focus on perfection but rather, “More on the process”. He also promotes openness to other creative methods. Art Bistro says, “Think about whether you enjoy executing your own ideas or succeeding others’ expectations for their ideas.” Why does trusting your artistic gut matter? It reveals your plasticity (ability to be adapted) for the design field.
I myself am a music student and experience pressure to be great. However, as my professor once told us, you start to become good when you enjoy it.You only improve when your trust your own creativity and mind.
